The moment I saw the footprints when I walked into class I knew you were up to something good! I really like how you took this project to the next level and presented it over a large area. I liked the suspense!
Something about your project reminded me of a crime scene and your project is something we'd find if we used a black light. I love how you scattered the pieces around the pole and some up the pole and in the vents. so creative, so good.
I tell you this after every project i see of yours, that it is so cool and amazing. The footsteps leading from the classroom to outside was a good idea, i felt lured in to following them. Besides being surprised of the photocopies climbing up to pole/wall/vent the photocopy that stands out in my mind that i really like was like side of the forearm pasted on the "push" piece of the door. so creative, good job!
Well, I feel pressured to say something intelligent.
First, I commend you on taking the risks you do. It's not easy to put yourself "out-there" for all to see. Now, what's really going on with your installation?
I must admit that I thought it was kind of familiar and somewhat obvious at first, but you gave it nice "extras" like the arm on door to represent pushing it open. I did feel some tension wondering what was going to happen.
Once outside, the show really begins. I could talk about the nice contrast created by the light and darker copies and the way you interacted with the pole, wall, and vent; but, in my ignorance, I'm experiencing conflicting responses. What is really going on? Am I impressed by the size and location, or is there something more . . . should there be something more? I guess this is the best complement I can give: your making me ask questions, which I believe is one of the best effects of good art.
You've created an artifact - represented a memory . . .
I loved the risk you used to involve yourself with the xerox project, making it interactive and more of an organic feeling.
The foot prints at first reminded me of dance steps, but then as I followed them down the hallway, and out the door, it became all to real. The mixed emotional concept of body parts with the pole and by the wall of the vent really added a cool chaos effect. Great job of aligning the scattered body pieces and using them as beginning / ending sequences.
The xerox copies going through the vent at the end was my favorite part.
I'm a glad Santi used your xerox example at the art and technology lecture. Your piece really brought our objective in class of art being real motivating, decontextualized, and interactive.
Your xerox project may indeed be a good example of a future senior project. Keep up the inspiration.
AWESOME!! the footprints on the floor made a great trail that made you want to follow and see where it lead to, once i followed them outside all i could say was WOW. i was amazed at the collage that was on the floor and walls. i especially LOVED the images coming out of the vent, it reminded me of the video Santiago showed us in class when we were doing out flip book animations. I know Santiago told you this a zillion times but it would definitely make a GREAT stop motion animation.
i walked into the art building through the back door and i knew it was your project right away when i saw it. i'm always diggin' on your project styles, but this one was definitely one of the best. the fact that your images were degenerated from a copier that started to run out of ink to the full black and white gave your piece a lot of depth. the story that your piece tells from steps out of the closet to getting into the a/c vent outside was amazing.
You stepped out of the box and I loved it! This is just amazing! The fact that you added hands around the pole and coming out of the vent was so creative. I really didn't know what to expect. You did an amaaaazing job!

ReplyDeleteVery creative, I like how you used the space of the classroom to build your work. It was well done and has still lasted which is pretty funny.
